The Presidents--Learning Resources and Strategies

In class, we've been learning the names and order of the American presidents. Additionally, I have shared with you my teaching rational. To help us accomplish this task, we're using many means--singing, charts, repetition, and practice.

Today I discovered a new resource and want to share it with you. It is posted below. There's some fun stuff here--so take a look.

For extra credit, in your comment (be sure to identify yourself and period number), please post links to resources (or list strategies) you have found valuable.

Personally i found the book and the chart are the best ways to learn the presedents. In fact, i even found my self singing in the shower, but i was not singing any Elves or Beach Boys (not like i normally sing songs from them), it was the presidents number 1-15. Not to lie i was a little mad that even when i am off school i am thinking about it.
Back to the topic, simple studying and practice works well. That and talking parts of the name and think of something they remind you of. Personally I think over complicationg things really just makes learning and memorizing them that much harder.

I found a website the listed all of the presidents in order, their terms, and party. I liked this website because on some of the presidents you can click on there name and learn more about them.

Learning the presidents is hard for me, the song helps, just for the last name though, so i try to think of stories using the first names.

Repitition has worked quite well for me. Although, it is rather tedious, it is quite effective! I like singing the song to get the last names down because the first names are really simple to figure out. I also like studying with someone else because then you can quiz each other. Davin Wright and I always sing the presidents' song in my car and then he always quizzes me on their first names. Since I've missed a lot of class singing the song constantly will be very helpful for my next test. :P

I often forget my chart of the presidents in my locker so my way of studying at home is by using the following website.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/
It is very helpful and even gives information on every president that can also be an assistance to learning the presidents effectively.

However my chart of the president that we made has been what I have used the most. Its just a quick and simple way of studying the presidents in correct order. I have learned my presidents now but to review I usually test myself a few times so I know what presidents I have a hard time remembering. That way i remember them on the test. :) Practice makes perfect for sure when it comes to learning all of the 44 presidents.
